A framework for integrating non-stationarity considerations into drought assessment

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is inviting recommendations for experts to contribute to a new study examining the future of drought in the United States. The study committee will explore methods for drought characterization, evaluation, and response in the context of a changing climate. It aims to establish a framework for integrating non-stationarity considerations into drought assessment applicable across various geographic regions and at different spatial and temporal levels to guide both short-term risk management and long-term adaptation strategies. Utilizing these recommendations, the staff of the National Academies will work to assemble a committee of approximately ten volunteer experts while also gathering information on potential speakers, participants, and peer reviewers for publications that may arise from this initiative.
