In a significant step toward advancing integrated and resilient approaches to the built environment, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has announced the co-location of two of its flagship events in 2026. The AEI / IRD 2026 Conference, hosted by ASCE’s Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI) and Infrastructure Resilience Division (IRD), will take place alongside the Construction Institute (CI) & Construction Research Congress (CRC) 2026 Joint Conference.

This unprecedented co-location will provide a rare and dynamic platform for cross-disciplinary collaboration, uniting global leaders in architectural, civil, and construction engineering. The theme “Holistically Addressing Buildings and Infrastructure as Interconnected Systems” underscores a growing urgency to design and manage the built environment as an integrated, adaptive, and resilient system.

Organizers are inviting abstracts that explore the integration of building and infrastructure lifeline systems, with a particular emphasis on resilience, sustainability, and emerging technologies. Topics of interest include energy efficiency, hazard mitigation, smart cities, forward-looking codes and standards, innovative delivery methods, and the evolving role of AE and CE professionals in shaping future-ready urban systems.

The 2026 technical program will feature a curated mix of individual presentations, real-world case studies, and expert-led panel discussions. Submissions will be reviewed and selected by a dedicated program committee and session moderators to ensure a high-quality, forward-thinking agenda. (Source: www.aei-conference.org)
