3-Panel Climate Flood Resilience Symposium Heads To Charlottesville, VA

Registration is now open for Virginia Crossroads: Flood Resilience across the Commonwealth, a National Academies Climate Crossroads symposium focused on flood resilience and science-based policy and planning in Virginia’s changing climate (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2026a). The hybrid event is scheduled for Friday, March 27, 2026, with in-person attendance at the CODE Building and the Irving Theater (225 W Water Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902), and also offers a virtual option. Registrants will receive webcast links by email. The program features three panels addressing urban and rural flooding and innovations across the Commonwealth, along with student poster flash talks and an in-person reception after the public program. The event is organized in partnership with UVA Engineering and the Virginia Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine.

A draft agenda highlights a practical, outcomes-focused purpose: researchers, decision-makers, and practitioners from across Virginia will explore how actionable science can improve flood resilience, share field lessons, and foster connections for future collaboration. Audience Q&A is scheduled after each panel, and the agenda includes structured networking breaks and a lunch session designed to strengthen cross-sector ties. It also features opening remarks from the University of Virginia and Climate Crossroads leaders, followed by panels moderated by Virginia citizens, with confirmed participants from localities, state agencies, academia, and industry.
