As a part of Massachusetts’ capital planning, the Resilient MA Action Team (RMAT) Climate Resilience Design Standards and Guidelines project implements actions from the State Hazard Mitigation and Climate Adaptation Plan (SHMCAP) and proposes guidance for state-funded projects to climate resilience.

The Commonwealth’s Climate Resilience Design Standards Tool features the following four sections: Project Inputs and Preliminary Climate Risk Rating Output; Climate Resilience Design Standards Output; Guidelines and Best Practices; and, Additional Information and Resources.

In the Guidelines and Best Practices section, the Resilient MA Action Team provides general design guidance for consideration, when implementing the recommended standards. Representing overarching climate resilience principles, the guidelines are not specific to a project type or climate hazard.

Also, the Resilient MA Action Team offers forms to guide users through the guidelines and to document decision-making throughout the planning. Forms include Guidelines and Best Practices PDF, Site Suitability, Regional Coordination, and Flexible Adaptation Pathways.

About the Massachusetts Climate Change Clearinghouse
